Connections

Since launching All Things Encaustic I have been “meeting” many artists online and a few face-to-face. The f2f connections last week were at The Artist Project Toronto, online connections include Ning, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr.

NING
I followed a link from a tweet and found an online group for Encaustic Art on Ning. Ning is a site that allows you to create your own social network with profiles, photo galleries, blog posts and forums. If I had found this community previously I may not have felt the need to start All Things Encaustic. And get this! I was the 700th person to join and Thea Haubrich is sending me artwork to celebrate this milestone! How amazing is that?

TWITTER
If you are new to twitter and are trying to figure out how it works you may find this article “How to Tweet” helpful. If you are using TweetDeck or a similar twitter program it is very easy to setup columns for different purposes. I have one column to display all tweets for the hashtag #encaustic. This is a great way for me to find new people on Twitter who love encaustic. Follow this list of encaustic artists on twitter to get you started or have a look at who I’m following and who’s following me on the All Things Encaustic twitter account.

FACEBOOK
There are some great opportunities to connect on facebook. While you are there be sure to checkout and Like the All Things Encaustic Facebook page. Then look in the left hand column to see what I’ve “liked”.

There are a number of Facebook groups that may interest you. Just search groups using the term “encaustic”. I have joined two groups but there are others as well.

  • Encaustic Art is an open group that anyone can join. There are currently 756 members.
  • Encaustic is a closed group – you need to be approved by the administrator to get in. There are currently 277 members.

FLICKR
I started a Flickr group last week and there are now 7 members – All Things Encaustic. Art added to this group will show on the gallery page of this site. There are other Flickr groups as well: Wax Worx and We Wax Art.

CONFERENCE
For the ultimate face-to-face experience I’ve registered for the Fifth Internat’l Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, Cape Cod in June. I’m so excited!

Please add your comments below. To follow me on any of these just click the icons at the top of this site. If you have any questions about how to connect with social media just ask.

Do you think I should add a forum on this site when there are already so many other places to connect online?
